Malaysia-EU Free Trade Agreement (MEUFTA) Industry Survey Briefing

We are pleased to invite you to the Malaysia–EU Free Trade Agreement (MEUFTA) Industry Survey Briefing, organised by EUROCHAM Malaysia in collaboration with ITALCHAM Malaysia, taking place on Wednesday, 20 August 2025 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM (UTC+8) via Zoom.

This online session will outline the objectives of the MEUFTA Industry Survey, participation guidelines, and how your feedback will help shape sectoral positions that influence ongoing trade negotiations between Malaysia and the European Union.

The EU and Malaysia relaunched FTA negotiations in January 2025 after a 12-year pause, aiming for a modern, ambitious, comprehensive, and mutually beneficial agreement. The FTA will cover over 20 chapters, including:

  • Trade in Goods – market access, rules of origin, technical standards, and sanitary/phytosanitary measures.

  • Services & Investment – liberalisation across multiple sectors and removal of ownership restrictions.

  • Government Procurement – transparency, fair competition, and anti-corruption measures.

  • Behind-the-Border Disciplines – digital trade, intellectual property rights, SME participation, and sustainability commitments.

Industry consultation process:
  • Detailed questionnaire (August–September 2025) to gather sector-specific insights.

  • Working group discussions in sectors such as automotive, healthcare, electronics, FMCG, wines & spirits, and services.

  • Development of position papers – capturing the consolidated outcomes of the questionnaire and working group discussions, these documents will be shared directly with the EU FTA negotiation team to reflect industry priorities.

  • Publication of the FTA White Book – scheduled for the first half of 2026, compiling all position papers along with key domestic advocacy issues and industry references, serving as a comprehensive resource for stakeholders
