On February 29, 2024, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) organised the prestigious Malaysia Madan Annual Media Conference (AMC) 2024, at MIDA Sentral.
Italcham Malaysia, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia, had the privilege of attending this significant event and gaining valuable insights about Malaysia’s Investment Performance in the Manufacturing, Services and Primary Sectors in 2023.
The conference featured a compelling keynote address by the YB Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI).
Guided by the theme ‘Advancing Responsible
Investments,’ the Minister shared comprehensive insights into Malaysia’s Investment Performance across diverse economic sectors for the year 2023.
Moreover, the AMC 2024 cast a spotlight on Quality Projects that serve as exemplars of responsible investments.
These showcases provided tangible illustrations of how strategic investment decisions play a pivotal role in shaping Malaysia’s sustainable economic future. Malaysia is optimistic about surpassing its record-high approved investments of RM329.5 billion in 2023, targeting a minimum growth of 8 to 10 percent in 2024. Tengku Zafrul noted a positive correlation between investment growth and the forecasted 4.0-5.0 percent GDP growth.
With 1,710 projects in the pipeline, totalling RM87.8 billion, the services sector dominates with 1,648 projects (RM52.7 billion), while manufacturing boasts 62 projects (RM35.1 billion) under MIDA. Tengku Zafrul emphasised the goal to double the investment contribution to GDP from 20-23 percent to 35 percent, urging MIDA’s increased efforts to attract investments and trade.
