Meeting with EUROCHAM Malaysia and the Members of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee for International Relations and International Trade of the Parliament of Malaysia
Last Thursday (July 6th), Italcham Malaysia Executive Committee Member and Eurocham Malaysia Deputy Chairman, Mr Luciano Pezzotta participated in a meeting with EUROCHAM Malaysia and the Members of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee for International Relations and International Trade of the Parliament of Malaysia.
During the very productive discussion, attendees had the opportunity to raise several relevant topics for the trade and investment relations between Malaysia and the EU including:
- the status of trade negotiations, with a particular focus on Malaysia – EU Free Trade Agreement (MEUFTA)
- the EU Green Deal Impact on Malaysia, including the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the EU Forced Labour Product Ban, the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)
- the rollout of Malaysia’s 5G network
- MM2H and the need to consider making amendments to ensure the visa is beneficial for both applicants and Malaysia.
In attendance for EUROCHAM Malaysia were also Oliver Roche, Chairman of EUROCHAM Malaysia, Sven Schneider, CEO of EUROCHAM Malaysia, Timo Goosmann, Minister Counsellor – Head of Political Affairs, Press and Information, EU Delegation, Pauline Goh, Vice President BeLuxCham Malaysia, David Hägerbro, CEO of Ericsson (Malaysia), Afrizal A., Head of Government & Industry Relations, Ericsson (Malaysia).
The dialogue was very productive as another meeting was agreed to be held in 6 months.
