On behalf of our esteemed Platinum Chamber Member, EDA Industries, we are proud to announce the launch of their latest plant on 13 December 2024 in Jasin, Melaka.
This milestone underscores Melaka’s reputation as an investor-friendly destination, with EDA Malaysia Industries Sdn Bhd—an Italy-based semiconductor manufacturer—choosing the state for its expansion. This new plant replaces their previous facility in Tangkak, Johor, which had been in operation since 2017 but could no longer accommodate their growth in Malaysia.
The inauguration ceremony began with welcoming remarks by Mr. Fortunato Palella, Founder and President of the EDA Group. He expressed his confidence in Melaka, Malaysia, as an ideal investment destination and a strategic location for launching the company’s new plant. Mr. Palella also presented a video highlighting EDA Industries’ journey and accomplishments in Southeast Asia over the years, showcasing the group’s dedication to innovation and growth in the region.
Italcham Malaysia, represented by Ms. Erika Angelozzi, Secretary General, had the pleasure of attending this momentous occasion. Our Chamber is excited about the opportunities this new plant will bring and looks forward to working closely with EDA Industries to strengthen commercial ties and promote the Made in Italy brand in Malaysia.
The event was also graced by the Chief Minister of Melaka, Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh, who highlighted the significance of this development.
“EDA Malaysia Industries, part of an Italian group with over 30 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, has invested over RM80 million in this new facility. The location is strategically positioned to meet the rising demand for burn-in and test equipment—a critical technology for ensuring the reliability of semiconductor devices in sectors such as automotive, biomedical, telecommunications, and aerospace,” said the Chief Minister.
He added, “We are proud that EDA Industries has chosen Melaka as their operational hub. This achievement makes EDA the second Italian-owned company to invest in Melaka. It also reflects our state’s commitment to fostering an investor-friendly environment and supporting the global business community. The Melaka State Government remains dedicated to advancing the semiconductor industry by enhancing workforce skills and strengthening supply chain capabilities.”
The ceremony was also attended by several distinguished guests, including the State Secretary, Dato’ Azhar Arshad; Deputy State Executive Councilor for Investment, Industry, and TVET Development, Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar; Founder and President of EDA Group, Fortunato Palella; and CEO of EDA Italy, Christina Allarces.
During the event, Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh, Datuk Khaidhirah, and Fortunato Palella toured the facility and inspected the products manufactured at the new plant.
As Melaka continues to attract global investments from over 10 countries, this success reinforces the state’s vision of becoming a leading destination for industrial growth and innovation. Italcham Malaysia remains committed to supporting EDA Industries in their mission and furthering the presence of Italian excellence in Malaysia.
