Responsible Business Exhibition and Multi-Stakeholder Conference co-organised by Thomson Reuters Foundation and EUROCHAM Malaysia
On 07 August 2023, Italcham Malaysia attended the Responsible Business Exhibition and Multi-Stakeholder Conference, co-organised by Thomson Reuters Foundation and EUROCHAM Malaysia.
The event commenced with welcome remarks from Nicholas Glicher, Chief Operating Officer of Thomson Reuters Foundation and Sven Schneider, Chief Executive Officer, EUROCHAM Malaysia.
It was then followed by the “Impact of the responsible business regulatory landscape on Malaysian industry” conference. In this session a legal expert and an Industry representative discuss what incoming international regulation, including the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence (CSDDD) and Reporting Directives (CSRD) and the German Supply Chain Act mean for businesses in Malaysia. This discussion also discussed the legal frameworks behind this regulation and highlight practical steps that businesses can take to ensure compliance and maintain competitiveness on the international market.
It was moderated by Stefania Perna, Project Manager of Thomson Reuters Foundation, and featured Ooi Ju-Lien, Partner at Christopher & Lee Ong and Dr Eva Langerbeck, Deputy Executive Director of the Malaysian-German Chambers of Commerce
Meanwhile, the Responsible Business Exhibition began with open with the presentation of a business case study developed by the TRF and BSR which highlights the importance of human rights diagnosis for businesses and the areas where cross-sectoral support can be employed to advance responsible practices. The exhibition provided businesses with useful connections to identify and address social and human rights risks as they prepare for the incoming Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence and ESG reporting regulation.
